Squirrel Nut Zippers With Guests
Wednesday, 19 December 2007

The year 2007 began a new era for the Squirrel Nut Zippers. After some years away, we have been very pleased to come together again and perform throughout the US. Audiences from San Francisco to New York not only made us feel welcomed, but missed as well. We felt the real reunion was between the band and the audience. It's been a triumph for the band

Image With gigs starting in February in DC, we began to develop our live set again. As always, every night was a little different. There has always been that element of chance in our sound, but now we control it and understand it more so than in the past. Over the course of 40 or so shows, we played songs from our entire catalogue, which was very illuminating. It gave us a snapshot of our career that we had never seen before. It's so rare to get that kind of perspective. These shows also proved to us that our chemistry is indefatigable - both on stage and off. As it turns out, the break we took helped us become a better band. A better Family.

In addition to the original band members Katherine Whalen, Jimbo Mathus, Chris Phillips, Je Widenhouse and Stuart Cole, we enlisted the steadfast William Dawson playing Keys, Guitar and Alto Sax. On Baritone Sax and Tuba we had the amazing Henry Westmoreland. We were also very lucky to have on loan from The Old Ceremony, Gabriel Pelli on Violin - a phenomenal soloist. All these guys added so much to the band. We felt very proud to have them.Image

You never know how things are going to unfold in Zippers world, but we can guarantee one thing. We're going to keep exploring the same music we always have. With more shows to come we hope to see everyone that we missed so far this year. It's a pleasure. It's a sweet confection. And it's always a mystery. That's the way we like it.
